Utah Opera Resident Artist Program Auditions

Utah Opera’s Resident Artist Program for singers and pianists provides an integral step between graduate studies and a career. Participants spend nine months w/ Utah Opera developing professional skills through mainstage performances w/ Utah Opera and Utah Symphony, coachings, workshops, and masterclass sessions. Artists also travel throughout the state performing in-school and community presentations that educate and inform audiences about the operatic art form.

Compensation and Eligibility
There is no age limit to apply, but applicants must be either a U.S. citizen or be authorized to work in the United States through the end of May 2023.
Payment is provided
Resident Artists are paid a biweekly stipend with benefits, and are provided a travel allowance.

Minimum of 2 video recordings of contrasting selections, uploaded. Consult the note below for recording requirements as well as tips for successful recordings.
Proposed Repertoire List (changes will be allowed)

NOTES on VIDEO RECORDINGS: Prescreening videos may be submitted with live or track accompaniment, piano or orchestra. If you are performing with a track, you are welcome to record with headphones and then edit the voice and piano tracks together. Please do not submit a cappella recordings. Selections should be performed from memory. Videos may be from performances, recitals, or concerts, as long as you can be seen clearly. Videos should show as much of your body as possible so we can clearly see your acting choices.

Live Audition Timeline 

• Fri Oct 29 Applications due
• Nov. 1-12 Audition notifications sent. Applicants advancing to the live audition round will receive a new YAP Tracker link for confirmation of their audition, including submission of the $25 audition fee. Confirmation must be received within 5 days of receipt of your audition notificiation.
• Nov. 19-Dec. 6 Live auditions
• Fri Dec 17 Notification of finalists
• Jan 2022 Finalist interviews with Utah Opera staff via Zoom

Virtual Audition Timeline

  • Fri Nov. 12  Virtual audition notifications sent. Applicants advancing to the virtual audition round will receive a new link from YAPtracker for confirmation of their audition, including submission of the $25 audition fee and final repertoire list, indicating your chosen “starter” aria.
  • Wed Nov 17 Audition confirmation deadline.
  • Tue Nov. 23 Second selections chosen by Utah Opera
  • Mon. Dec. 6 Virtual audition recordings due. Auditioners will record a single take of the two arias in order and submit the new video through YAP Tracker.
  • Fri Dec 17 Notification of finalists
  • Jan 2022 Finalist interviews with Utah Opera staff via Zoom
