Utah Opera Preview: Puccini’s La bohème

September 26, 2023 | 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM | Utah Opera Production Studios Third-floor Learning Center 336 N 400 W, Salt Lake City

Utah Opera’s preview class will provide insights into the story and the music, as well as the production history of Puccini’s La bohème. We will also present fascinating information about Utah Opera’s production and its cast. Interested class members can linger after the hour-long class session to observe a rehearsal on-site. Presented through University of Utah Osher Lifelong Learning Institute by Principal Coach Carol Anderson and Opera Education Manager Kevin Nakatani.

Four struggling bohemians–a poet, a painter, a musician, and a philosopher–are living together in Paris when their lives are changed forever one freezing night. Their neighbor Mimì unexpectedly strikes the match of first love when she knocks at the door looking for a candle light. But as Mimì’s health declines, our four starving artists are sharply awoken to the harsh realities of life, in true operatic fashion. With some of opera’s best-known music, Puccini captures the thrill of young love and the devastation of untimely loss in this timeless classic.
